Champaign, OH:  Wild Child

She’s a wild child…
Got a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy wild style…

(Kenny Chesney/Grace Potter – Wild Child)

Wild child…exactly how I feel about this little local market of love. We are so close to celebrating our fifth year since opening our doors, er, our computers, to the public!!

Back in the days of planning, the days of dreaming, the days of wondering just where this market would take us, the potential, or, the unspoken…what if we fail??

Well, we see THAT didn’t happen. Yes, we were very unsure in the beginning. Very new, very cutting edge, very much a new way of shopping a farmer’s market. We were the wild card of markets. The wild child. The market that decided to pave it’s own way, be it’s own kind of market, make it all happen on it’s terms.

It’s not easy being the wild child. But, just like a wild child, this market was built on taking chances, jumping right into things to see what would work, spreading love of local wherever we went, and building our community bond, each and every day.

When you step into the unknown, it’s always a wild card move. It takes a whole lot of trust, determination, dedication, loyalty, and love…it’s all you’ve got going for you, and it’s up to the wild child or as our market has many wild vendors, to pave the way…to where nobody dared go before. Because it’s the wild ones, the wild thinkers, the wild chance takers, that get things done!

If you have been along for our wild ride, we love you, we cherish you, and we look forward to many, many years in a flourishing, wild child, little local market of love!!

Get to know us, continue with us, or love us as you have been…just like the wild child vendors, our customers are wild at heart for coming along…

The market is open, we are looking at our first day of spring, and it’s a sunshine kind of morning!

Perfect to get a little wild…perfect to place your orders!

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

CLG:  Opening Bell: Chinese "Napa" Cabbage, Honey, Kale!

Good afternoon!
At Friday’s market I saw the prettiest Napa cabbage I’ve ever seen, ANYWHERE! Amazing job, Eddie Stuckey at Kellogg Valley Farms!

Spring is officially here! Lots of plants for attracting pollinators are now listed, as well as some vegetable plants. If you have even a little room in your yard, try growing some of your own food and you’ll be amazed at what you can do. It’s a great way to get kids interested in eating local too!

Usually our volunteers have the market ready for customers to pick up before 4pm. If you are out and about and want to know if we are ready, just text me to see: 501-339-1039

Check out almost 500 wonderful items listed right now. Have a great week!

See you on Friday!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market Is Open

Welcome ALFN members to another week on our local market full of common, exotic, sensusal, savory, sweet, and nutritious products cultivated and prepared by local growers.

What Is New This Week?

We are nearing Easter weekend and the pivot into spring weather. Weal & Woe will have some beautiful arrangements of Parrot Tulips on sale this Saturday, so look for them at market. These flowers are really spectacular with wide explosions of color.

I’m always finding surprising items on our website. This past week, I realized A B C Nature Greenhouse & Herb Farm sells Water Fern, Azolla pinnate. These aquatic plants are fantastic. They grow on the surface of water very quickly providing habitat for other marine creatures. However, Water Ferns fix atmospheric nitrogen due to a symbiotic relationships with blue-green algae. Many agricultural traditions in the East use Water Fern as green manure in rice fields as well as supplemental feed for ducks and chickens. How cool is that!!! Setting up a small pond in a backyard is a great way to not only use Azolla, but provide habitat for indigenous amphibians and beneficial insects. Of course, you don’t have to have a plant to enjoy Water Fern. Any small space that can hold some water will allow Water Fern to quickly reproduce for a unique, sustainable source of fodder or compost.

Next week, we have our third Community Market Day. This month we will welcome Willow Springs Market Garden on Saturday. Make sure you get an order so you can drop by and see Robert. I tell you, every time I speak with Robert, I learn something new about gardening. He is a skilled gardener and has a keen interest in unique plants and foods not traditionally found in grocery stores or farmers markets. Make sure you give an extra ten minutes to greet Willow Springs this next week.

Enjoy the week!

Apologies for opening the market a few minutes late. We had an overdue goat to give birth last night! Exciting times :D

Rod at Double Star Bar Farms will have Purple Mustard Greens that have a horseradish taste on the finish for those who like horseradish, you will love these!! These are sold in 2 ounce packages! Sounds delicious for salads, sautees and even in a pesto!
He has also added a mixed bag of German Giant, Cherriette, Chery Belle, or Purple Plum radishes! These will come with the greens which can also add wonderful flavor and nutrition to salads. The greens can also be added to soups, pestos, roasted along with the radishes for a different treat! Try something new this week and share with us!

Ridiculous Chocolate is BACK from vacation this week and back on the market! Welcome home!

Chef Jenny from Seeds of Success will be at the market with samples of all her delicious seasonings and the new Sunbutter Bites!

“These bites combine sunbutter with oats, honey, cocoa, and a hint of sea salt to create a nutritious bite that provides energy, protein, fiber, vitamin E, zinc, and iron. They are perfect for sharing, breakfast on-the-go, or an afternoon snack. Since the SOS is based around the sunflower seed, sunbutter (sunflower seed butter) seemed like an appropriate choice for this bar. *Vegan *No Sugar *No Flour *No Nuts "

White City Produce & Greenhouse has added Rainbow Chard, Arugula, Siberian Kale and Butter Crunch lettuce PLANT STARTS for your own garden.

Don’t forget the Easter Herb Basket from Dogwood Valley, skincare from Botanical Harmony Farm, the incredible food itself and Gift Certificates make a wonderful Easter or welcome Spring gift!
