Market News

Welcome to a new order week and the warmer weather.

We appreciate you all so much and want to hold another giveaway! Just ask Ashleigh, Tracey LOVES to give things away!

Ok, here is how it will work this time, once again very simple. For every person who orders this week, they are entered. We will use a random number generator to draw the winner.
Then we will choose a vendor (via the same method) and the customer winner will receive a $15 certificate to use with that vendor only (paid by the market). This makes it exciting for both the customer AND the vendors:). Good luck and we hope enjoy these fun things!

More to come next week along with NEW ITEMS!! Be on the lookout for those!

Dothan, Alabama:  Memorial Day Order Schedule

Market at Dothan Salutes our Heroes

What Memorial Day Means To Me

Written by Emma Oravec , Grade 6, 2009

Your life is the greatest gift you can give your country, and on Memorial Day we honor men and women who have given their lives to defend us. On Memorial Day, I go to the cemetery with my family and listen to a special service. The old men from World War II come up to the podium and talk about their friends that died and tell how they respect them. I’m really glad that they were there to stop the Nazis, because they were so mean. Men from other wars like Korea and Vietnam also talk, and I think it is very heart-touching, because they talk about how their friends gave their lives to save us, and I respect that, too. If there are any soldiers home from Afghanistan or Iraq, they stand up and we all clap for them, and that makes me feel happy, sad, and proud all at the same time. I am happy for them, because they foughthard and did a good job. I am sad because they might have to go back and fight again. And I am proud, because they are representing our country. I am glad that America has a day to remember the soldiers who gave us their greatest gift.

If you’re not familiar with German Pizza you are in for a pleasant surprise. This versatile dish is gluten free as the crust is potato based. It can be adapted to use ground pork, sausage or smoked meats. You can even add other traditional pizza toppings. Let us know your own special spin on it!

1 lb. Ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped
½ green pepper, diced
1- 1 ½ teaspoons salt, divided
1/2 teaspooon pepper
2 tablespoons butter
6 medium potatoes (about 2 ¼ lbs) peeled and shredded
1- 1 ½ teaspoons salt, divided
3 eggs beaten
1/2 cup milk
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

In a 12-inch stove-top or electric skillet, over medium heat, brown beef with onion, green pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Remove meat mixture from skillet and drain fat. Reduce heat to low. Melt butter; spread potatoes over butter and sprinkle with remaining salt. Top with beef mixture. Combine eggs and milk; pour over all. Cook, covered, until potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes. Top with cheese. Cover and heat until cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. Cut in wedges or squares to serve. Yields 4 to 6 servings.

Dawson Local Harvest:  Memorial Day Meals and More!

Dawson Local Harvest for May 27th

Memorial Day Meals and More!

HI EVERYONE!

Hoping you’re looking forward to a big Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer. Here’s what’s happening.

FIVE HENS FARMS has their delicious Snow Peas again this week. Peas usually are only available 3-4 weeks, so get this great Asian staple while you can. Incidentally, here’s a twist on the usual Stir Fry. Guam Fried Rice is made with bacon or, Heaven forbid, SPAM and snow peas! I thought I was the only one eating it that way.

LEILANI’S has another Asian mainstay, Pak Choi or Bok Choi which would go perfectly with the snow peas, (Spam or not). They also have Green Onions, both the standard green with white tips and an interesting purple tipped variety. Baby Carrots, Collards, Kale, Swiss Chard, and lots of Lettuces are ready, and Scarlet Turnips have been added to the Menu again.

MY DAILY BREAD is back! Bruce is recovering from his surgery and they are back in production.
DON’T FORGET! For this upcoming weekend MY DAILY BREAD also has wonderful Cheese logs and dips, Cream Cheese spreads, wonderful Desserts (try the organic Chocolate Zucchini Bread) and much more

PUT SOME SHRIMP ON THE BARBEE for Memorial Day! Wild-caught Georgia white Shrimp from TOM’S AWESOME SEAFOOD is available quick-frozen for excellent flavor.

THE MARKET WILL OPEN Sunday night at 8pm!

REMEMBER! You can order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.
