Palouse Grown Market:  Changes

Hello all~

As we gear up for the growing season (which looks like we’ll have enough water for!) I wanted to update you on this upcoming season for Palouse Grown Market.
I have chosen to expand my farming knowledge by getting my hands in the dirt and working on my Dads farm in Greenbluff, Wa this season. I’m super excited for this new opportunity, though this also means I will not be managing Palouse Grown Market. I have found an ambitious replacement in Anthony (please see his email below) who is going to keep the Market going this season and he is also hoping to expand the Market into wider wholesale opportunities (restaurants, events, etc) for interested farmers. I believe his experience in farm-to-table restaurants in Flagstaff and Seattle as well as farming his family’s land in the Pullman area and raising livestock will be of great benefit to the future of this market as it continues to grow. We are working together to make this a very smooth transition.
Members, thank you so very much for your support this past season and thank you vendors for growing/raising and providing your neighbors clean, healthy foods, it makes a world of difference in our community in so many ways.

Wishing you all a very happy spring,

Holly

Greetings,

The seasons and weather are changing swiftly. As are many other things around us. I was lucky enough to meet Holly at the Palouse-Clearwater Food Summit. We started throwing around some idea’s, opportunities fell her direction and she asked if I was interested. How could I not accept?

I do not plan on making any major changes to the current business model. But as Holly said I feel there is also opportunity for growth in your market through entering into the wholesale side of the food system (restaurants, schools etc.). I am currently working on getting information for applicable permits / licensing, etc…

If you have any questions, concerns, ideas or you just want to chat feel free to contact me.

ALFN Local Food Club:  Market Reminder

ALFN Members,

Remember to finalize your order in the market before tomorrow at noon. Squash has officially arrived in the market! Welcome summer squash…welcome Spring!

News

I’m saddened to announce one of our growers was vandalized this past week. Debe Hudson with A B C Nature Greenhouse & Herb Farm had a vandal ruin one of her greenhouses by ripping the plastic, disabling the wood burner, and leaving the doors open during a freezing event over the evening. Unfortunately, most of Debe’s plants were killed due to the loss of heat. As many of our farmers know, the early part of spring is a time to get a head start on the market and provide produce as early as possible. This damage has put Debe back on the season, and she will not be able to sell any plants until the middle of the season. In a local economy, when a producer suffers, we all suffer for them. Let’s find ways to wish Debe the best and support her as she works to overcome the setback.

Take care,

Kyle Holton

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 Farm week of Mar 27 2016

Easter weekend is now behind us, temperature swings and precipitation events are the new normal. What a weekend. Cami and I were on the south coast (lake Erie) visiting friends Mat and Dorothy living an off grid lifestyle and starting to farm with horses. Sunday got up to 21c then it rained alot and Monday was 4c.

The new season is upon us, so it’s time to start thinking about your meat orders raised here on pasture: pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck and goose. Am offering advance ordering for pork sides. Chickens will be started soon, so please advise your freezer order. If you want lamb kabobs made up on skewers like in the photo, pls make order.

Chicken broth will be a regular offering for the spring.

As of Mar 20th , we can offer the following crops: leeks, kale, chard, spinach, cilantro, green onions, purple potatoes and arugula.

Camelia is cooking prepared foods from our produce: chicken broth, chicken casserole meat, apple sauce, stuffed peppers, cucumber relish, quiches (on order).
